High temperature drilling (HT)

High-Temperature Drilling Starch is a modified starch-based filtration control agent used in drilling fluids to manage fluid loss, particularly in high-temperature environments. It’s designed to reduce the amount of filtrate entering the wellbore and improve borehole stability, especially in water-based drilling fluids

When drilling, drilling fluid circulates to cool the bit, remove cuttings, and maintain wellbore pressure. However, some fluid can leak into the formation, causing problems. It works as a filtration control agent, helps to seal off the pore spaces of the formation near the wellbore, reducing fluid loss.

In summary: High temperature drilling starch is a valuable additive in drilling operations, particularly in high-temperature environments, providing filtration control, borehole stability, and minimal formation damage

Application:

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Filtration Control: effectively minimizes fluid loss by creating a filter cake on the borehole wall, preventing filtrate from seeping into the formation.
  • High-Temperature Stability: It’s engineered to withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for use in HPHT (High-Pressure, High-Temperature) wells.
  • Water-Based Fluid Compatibility: It is designed to work well with various water-based drilling fluids.
  • Non-Damaging: It is considered non-damaging to the formation, which is crucial for maintaining reservoir productivity.
  • Borehole Stability: By reducing fluid loss, it helps maintain borehole stability, minimizing the risk of wellbore collapse or instability.
  • Environmental Friendliness: It’s often described as an environmentally friendly additive, which is an important consideration in drilling operations.
  • Versatile: It can be used in both freshwater and saltwater environments and in drilling, completion, and stimulation fluids.
  • Removability: It can be removed from the wellbore using methods like acid or oxidizers

The Smart Starch Solution for Every Industry.

High Temperature Drilling refers to drilling operations conducted in extreme geothermal or deep oil and gas reservoirs where temperatures often exceed 150°C (302°F).

HT drilling allows access to energy-rich reserves in ultra-deep zones and geothermal hotspots that are otherwise unreachable with conventional drilling methods.

Key challenges include equipment failure due to heat, reduced efficiency of drilling fluids, material degradation, and maintaining wellbore stability under thermal stress.

HT drilling tools are made from high-strength alloys, heat-resistant elastomers, and advanced ceramics that can withstand elevated temperatures and pressures.

Advanced temperature-monitoring systems, specialized cooling fluids, real-time data analysis, and rigorous safety protocols are employed to mitigate risks during HT drilling.
